Pol parties in Meghalaya ‘in the same bed’ with BJP: TMC’s Derek O’Brien

“They are in the same bed with the BJP; we are making it very clear that we never do business with the BJP,” Derek O’Brien told media persons in Shillong during the launch of TMC campaign song in the president of state party president Charles Pyngrope.

SHILLONG:

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O’Brien, on January 11, reiterated that the party will never do business with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging other political parties in the state of being associated with the saffron party one way or the other, regardless of their anti-BJP stance in public domain.

“They are in the same bed with the BJP; we are making it very clear that we never do business with the BJP,” O’Brien told media persons in Shillong during the launch of TMC campaign song in the president of state party president Charles Pyngrope.

When asked about the prospect of the party in the upcoming assembly polls with the exit of two sitting TMC MLAs, O’Brien refused to provide a direct reply to the query and only said, “It is a democratic process.”

“We are a new party in Meghalaya and you will discover us with time but we are serious about what we plan to do. We may not be able to fix everything but we will do our best; we have a clear plan for the state and we are running a clean campaign for the welfare of the people of Meghalaya,” he said in reply to a query.

Stating that the party believes in grassroot leadership, the Rajya Sabha MP said, “There is no GST on big talks; we believe we have a good team and a good leadership in the state. It is the people of Meghalaya who will decide.”

To a query on TMC being tagged a ‘Bengali’ party, state party president Charles Pyngrope intervened and stated that it is nothing but a “cooked-up label to bring us down.”

Lashing out at the other political parties over the usage of this tag, Pyngrope said, “Other than that, they have no other ammunition to go up against us. We are going to work for the people and as the president, I feel is not relevant anymore now.”
