Police intelligence wing strong: Prestone

SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday claimed that the intelligence wing of the police department is very strong.

“The intelligence wing is very strong and we will make it stronger. We will make sure that the citizens of the state are safe,” Tynsong told reporters.

He was reacting to a statement made by Opposition Chief Whip and AITC legislator from Umroi George B Lyngdoh that militancy is on the rise in the state.

Lyngdoh also slammed the government for defending the intelligence branch of the police department despite its failure to prevent the IED attack incidents.

Tynsong, however, asked the AITC leader to first see properly before he speaks. “If you say that we fail as far as the home department is concerned, I think they have given the best in their services and the proof is what, now immediately they were able to nab the culprits, the criminals or whoever was involved in the blast. Therefore, you cannot say that the government has failed,” he said.

Stating that police personnel are instructed to be alert for any kind of eventuality, Tynsong said, “We want to make sure that peace and tranquility is always there in the state of Meghalaya. Be it children, women, old people, they can walk and live freely and they should not think that if I go to Police Bazaar or somewhere else in Shillong I may not be able to come back home.”

“This is what we are doing and I am sure the government will be able to do it. I really appreciate the services made by the police force in the state, ” he added. On the arrest of a juvenile, who claimed to be an area commander of the HNLC, for his involvement in the Khyndailad blast, the deputy chief minister said it is the responsibility of the parents to see that young people are not easily misguided by anyone.

“My humble request to each and every parent is to take the responsibility to make sure you groom your children well and lead them in the right direction,” he said.
