Politics another means to serve people: Ransom

Sutnga took voluntary retirement as Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD).

SHILLONG:

National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from North Shillong, Ransom Sutnga, has said that he plunged into politics after taking voluntary retirement from his government job since this would be another level for him to serve the people.

Sutnga took voluntary retirement as Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD).

“Even though my time for retirement had not yet come, I decided to take voluntary retirement since I understand that politics is another platform where I can serve the people, especially for the public of North Shillong,” he said.

He also said that he will work hard and hoped that he will win the 2023 election.

Sutnga also said that North Shillong constituency lacks facilities in many fronts.

He said that the NPP would want to make sure that North Shillong constituency will develop especially for the benefit of the citizens and for the future of the indigenous people.

“We have seen there is so much lacking in this constituency …we found out that our youths even though educated are still jobless.

“What saddens me even though the youths are well educated but they do not have jobs,” Sutnga said.

He said that the foremost agenda for him is to help them get jobs.

The NPP candidate said that the youths are in the crossroads of their lives but there is no one to guide them.

“Even though we may not be able to give them government jobs, we will ensure that they are able to stand on their own feet,” Sutnga said.

He said that under North Shillong constituency there are many households who come from economically poor backgrounds and that there is a need to ensure that they become financially stable.

Sutnga also expressed concern over the rise in drug abuse in his constituency.

He also said that there is a need to help the youth addicted to drugs.

Sutnga also hoped that a de-addiction centre can be set up which is at par with those in other parts of the country.
