Minister in-charge of Power Abu Taher Mondal

SHILLONG:

Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal, on March 23, informed that the report of the inquiry committee into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Saubhagya scheme has been sent to the Finance department for its comment.

“After the Finance department gives its comment then only we can say whether there are irregularities or not,” Mondal said while replying to a query raised by Congress legislator from Umsning Dr Celestine Lyngdoh relating to the allegations made against the implementation of the scheme.

Earlier, the minister informed that 53 villages have been covered and benefitted under the Saubhagya scheme under Mawkynrew Block till February, this year.

When Mawkynrew legislator Banteidor Lyngdoh wanted to know the reason why all 72 villages under the block were not covered by the scheme, Mondal said it was due to unavailability of funds.

According to him, only Rs 657.05 crore was sanctioned by the Centre for Saubhagya scheme implementation.

He, however, assured that the state government will take all initiatives to provide electricity to every village in the state.
