GHADC office swamped with protestors

TURA:

In an attempt to seek the ouster of its newly-elected CEM in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), a large group of protestors from several pressure groups of Garo Hills broke through the police cordon and entered the premises of the GHADC in Tura on February 14.

They shouted slogans against CEM Rakesh A Sangma calling for his resignation and swarmed the entire office complex of the council main entrance forcing employees to flee. A senior magistrate, additional District Magistrate Mary T Sangma along with a sizeable posse of armed police were left with no option but to step aside as the angry group broke through.

The CEM and his executive committee were not present in the office when the gherao took place at 12:30 pm.
