SHILLONG:
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of PWD Prestone Tynsong, on March 22, informed that the repairing work on the dilapidated Jowai bypass will start soon, adding that the work order has already been issued with a sanction amount of around Rs 11 to 12 crore.
Replying to a query raised by Mowkaiaw MLA Nujorki Sungoh on the fourth day of the budget session, Tynsong informed that instruction has been given to the contractor to start the work immediately.
The Jowai bypass continues to remain in a pathetic condition since last year, causing traffic snarls to become a common sight in the region.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya High Court has on December 13 last year directed the state to file a status report on the condition of the Jowai bypass and to repair the road by February 3, 2023.
