UMSNING:
Residents of Umtasor Mawdkar and Umsning Patarim under Umsning constituency braved the sun, the wind and the cold breeze till all their votes were cast on February 27 evening.
As per the Rangbah Shnong of Umtasor Mawdkar, residents of this area waited till around 11:30 pm and voting ended just before the clock struck 12.
“By the time voting ended, it was already 11:40 pm and the polling officer left around 1 am,” the Rangbah Shnong said.
Voting at this polling station reportedly started at 12 pm on Monday, as there were some technical snags with the EVM machine.
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya, FR Kharkongor, said the voting went on till around 8 pm and denied the polling going beyond midnight as the EVM machine sets off by itself at midnight since it has a 24-hour span.
“It is true, there was some malfunctioning of the machine in the Umtasor polling station and it took some time for them to replace the machine but all votes were cast and the EVM machines from the two polling stations reached the centre at night and are in the strong room,” Kharkongor said.
