NONGPOH:
As part of the Meghalaya’s 50th Statehood Day celebrations, the Ri Bhoi district administration felicitated 53 members of the Hills State Movement from the region, on January 21.
Held at the District Library auditorium, the members, some of whom are still alive, and their family members were honoured with mementos and appreciation certificates during the programme.
While 25 of them belonged to Thad village, 12 were from Raitong, seven from Tdoh Umsiang and Khlieh Umtrew, four from Umshaw, and one each from Mawtneng, Quinine, Umsamlem and Syngku villages.
During the event, the Deputy Commissioner of the district, RM Kurbah also released a souvenir and a song titled, ‘Beyond the Call of Duty Tribute To Our Martyrs Namar Ka Ri’, composed by the Meghalaya Police.
The programme was also attended by Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad, Commandant of 6th Battalion Lakador Syiem, Medical Superintendent of Nongpoh Civil Hospital PN Chyne, and President of the Ri Bhoi Dorbar RB Shadap, among others.
