GUWAHATI:

The Indian Army in association with the state governments of Meghalaya and Assam is all set to organise a four-day sporting extravaganza, ‘The Rising Sun Water Fest’ in the first week of November this year. The event is planned from November 2 to 5  at the picturesque Umiam Lake in Shillong with the aim of furthering the spirit of adventure & waterman ship in Northeast India.

Various water sports events and competitions in the form of Rowing & Sailing will be organized by the Army’s Eastern Command Aquatics Node (ECAN) established next to the Umiam Lake in Meghalaya.

This will be the first time that such an event will be organized in Northeast. The plethora of water sporting events that the fest will entail will not only instill in the youth of the region the spirit of competitiveness and agility in water sports but also would aid in their overall development.

The event is likely to see participation from many civil and services clubs from across the country. The event also will see footfall of many senior dignitaries from civil & military echelons.

Senior officials from the government, state, services and sporting fraternity have been invited to this one-of-a-kind event and they have given their nod.

The event is going to see some fierce competition as some prominent state and private clubs have already confirmed their participation and are geared up for the event.

The fest will also include many cultural programmes where many well-known celebrities will perform.

Organizers also have planned a mini air show in the mix of events where helicopters and jets will put up a spectacular sky show for the visitors.

The fest will also be a vacation for the gastronomic lovers as various authentic northeastern food will be available in stalls that will be installed in the venue.

The mega event is steered by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in association with the state governments of Meghalaya and Assam.
