Shullai asks Hek not to speak out against govt

SHILLONG:

BJP leader and Cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai on Thursday asked his party colleague and former minister AL Hek to desist from making anti-government statements and to consult him before making any.

“I cannot understand why Hek is like this despite being a senior leader. When he was holding the post of a minister, he was quiet most of the time. But when he had to leave the chair of minister, he started making all sorts of statements without my knowledge as a colleague in the government. Let people judge,” Shullai told reporters.

“That is why I appeal to him as my colleague to not make these statements without consulting me because he is not the only BJP (MLA). As a matured politician he should refrain from making such statements,” he added.

His statement came a day after MPCC chief Vincent Pala, citing examples of Shullai and Hek, alleged that the MDA is a divided house. “While AL Hek is criticising the government, Sanbor Shullai is defending the government” he said.

When asked, Shullai maintained that the party will only pull out of the MDA government if “we get the direction from the central leadership in Delhi”. “Therefore, if you have any problems, take them up with the chief minister or the concerning departments. It is not good to make such statements as people will laugh at you,” he added.

Meanwhile, the South Shillong MLA also appealed to the electorate of Meghalaya to give BJP a chance in 2023.

Referring to the dome collapse, shoddy construction of the ISBT and other incidents, Shullai said, “Cement  is used for construction of buildings, but it seems that the cement being used is not suitable for any construction as the assembly has collapsed, ISBT collapsed, bypass collapsed. It is not suitable. So I appeal to the people of Meghalaya in order to avoid such incidents, replace the cement with the cement of BJP government then we will take care of everything– your dreams will come true, all problems of teachers, educated unemployed, road, development everything we will give you.”

He cited the instance of BJP-ruled Assam recently handing over appointment letters to 23,000. In the first phase they have created over 7 lakh job opportunities,” he said.

“The same will also happen in Meghalaya if you change this cement. Give BJP cement, then everything you will get and there will be no more collapse of buildings henceforth. As soon as the BJP government starts functioning you will see…all aspirations of the people will be fulfilled within a short span of time,” he claimed.
