SHILLONG:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai has expressed resentment against Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh comments on atrocities on tribal communities in the country.
The incident apparently occurred when United Democratic Party (UDP) chief Metbah Lyngdoh was delivering a speech during the visit of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) presidential nominee Draupadi Murmu, at the Orchid Lake Resort in Umiam, on July 6.
Sources present in the meeting said that Shullai interrupted Lyngdoh’s speech when the latter was expressing concern over the atrocities being committed to tribals across the country. “While he (Lyngdoh) was expressing concern over atrocities to tribal communities, Shullai interrupted and objected by saying there are no atrocities to tribals in India,” a source said.
The source also added that Lyngdoh was visibly disappointed with Shullai’s interruption.
