SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who oversees Urban Affairs, provided an update on Monday regarding the progress of smart city projects in the state.

Dhar informed reporters that while the smart road phase-I project is underway, it has encountered some disruptions due to narrow roads and the presence of pipelines underground. He explained, “Some parts have been dug, but we cannot proceed directly due to the existence of a pipeline, as per the report received by me.”

Dhar mentioned that consultation with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department is necessary, which may cause some delays.

To expedite the project, Dhar stated that a joint meeting is planned for the following week involving the Public Works Department (PWD) and urban authorities.

Additionally, Dhar highlighted that several smart city projects are nearing completion. Currently, there are over 17 smart city projects being implemented across the state.
