The highlight of Day-One of the Hills Festival 2022 was Hanumankind, who burst onto the stage while spewing out some excellent English bars, and took the audience on a rollercoaster ride.

South Indian rapper Sooraj Cherukat alias Hanumankind is one of the few lyrical rappers in the country whose popularity skyrocketed during the pandemic. The Meghalayan spoke with him, and he revealed that this was his second visit to the state. He acknowledged that the crowd was expecting a fantastic performance because the area was well-known for its music. “I can sense the community, how accepting they are, and their love of music,” he said.

Last evening, he was on the stage for at least an hour, and the moment he began to play, the audience erupted with energy.

He outlined how his musical journey began with the NH7 music fest 2019 and has been extremely eventful since. “I was pursuing music concurrently with a career, but soon I left my job in order to pursue music as a fulltime profession”.

Explaining about his unusual moniker, “Hanumankind,” he said that it was just a mashup of two random names. He asserted that it was not spiritual in any way and had nothing to do with Lord Hanuman. Specifically, he intended to combine two Hindi terms with an English one.

One of his significant accomplishments was his appearance in the Netflix series “Namma Tales”. He said that there was a need for a South Indian rapper who could actually rap, and he was fortunate to have been chosen.
