SHILLONG:

On the occasion of Deepawali, SPARK organised a special eco-friendly Deepawali for underprivileged children.

The main objective of the programme was to brighten their lives by making them enjoy the festival as they do not get any opportunity to celebrate as they have to work and support their families.

In a statement, SPARK president, Shima Modak said, “As Deepawali signifies the festival of lights hence through this little initiative, we intend to bring light into the lives of these children and provide them a platform where they can enjoy to the fullest and forget all the burdens on their tender shoulders.”.

“Diwali also signifies the end of evil and rise of goodness. SPARK hopes that this Diwali ends all the evil and brings goodness and positivity in the lives of all especially these underprivileged and distressed children,” she added.

During the celebration, lamps were lit by the children with a strong belief that its light would bring brightness to the life of every child. The children recited a prayer asking for God’s blessing and support.

Thereafter, Modak acquainted the children with the essence of Diwali and the purpose of celebrating the same together without any kind of discrimination or individual differences.

Other attractions of the programme include games, dance performances and other recreational activities. The children also made colourful rangoli. Food was also provided to all the children. Altogether more than 200 children participated in the programme at Bara Bazaar, Mawlynrei and Rangmen Centres of SPARK.
