Spate of transfers from Manipur’s CAU to Meghalaya’s CA worries KSU

According to the KSU NKHD unit education secretary Banjop Maring, the union wanted to know whether the transferred persons from Imphal are here on their own or whether they have brought their family along with them.

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) North Khasi Hills District unit, on June 16, sought clarification from the dean of the College of Agriculture (CA) at Kyrdemkulai on the spate of transfers of officials from the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, to the college last week.

Speaking to media persons, College of Agriculture Dean JK Behara informed that there are seven staff who have been transferred from Manipur due to the current situation in the northeastern state.

He said that the transfer is temporary, adding that these staff are on contract basis for three months, adding that by the end of the stipulated time period, they will be transferred back to Imphal.

Behara also assured that the post which is meant for the locals will not be filled by others. “The staff who were transferred from Imphal will not take away the post sanctioned for the locals,” he added.

According to the KSU NKHD unit education secretary Banjop Maring, the union wanted to know whether the transferred persons from Imphal are here on their own or whether they have brought their family along with them.

“The dean said that only the transferred personnel are here. We have also come here to inquire about an advertisement that was floated in 2019 for eight vacant posts and why no interviews have been conducted till date. We had our apprehensions that maybe these eight vacant posts have been allotted to these seven individuals transferred from Imphal. But the dean said otherwise and said that interviews for these eight vacant posts will be held shortly,” Maring said.

Furthermore, the dean of the College clarified that interviews to fill up the eight vacant posts could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Since the time period has lapsed, we have submitted another request to sanction more posts and the advertisement will be floated soon,” he added.

He also informed that the transferred personnel draw their salary from the CAU, reiterating that they are CAU staff and have been temporarily transferred here.
