GUWAHATI:
In its crusade against corruption and graft, the sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and anti-corruption on December 17 arrested a junior account assistant of a treasury office in the Lakhimpur district for accepting a bribe for withdrawal of advance from the NPS account.
The accused identified as Jagat Ch Nath, junior accounts assistant of the office of the treasury officer, Bihpuria Sub Treasury om Lakhimpur district, had demanded Rs 3,000 as bribe from the complainant for withdrawal of advance from the NPS account of the complainant.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this Vigilance for taking necessary action against the public servant.
“A trap was laid today by a team from the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in the office of the treasury officer, Bihpuria. Jagat Ch Nath was caught red-handed at 1:20 pm immediately after he accepted Rs 3,000 as a bribe from the complainant,” an official release of Assam Police said.
“The bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized in presence of independent witnesses,” the release said.
A case has been registered in ACB Police Station vide No 57/2022 under section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Jagat Ch Nath.
Necessary legal follow-up action is underway, it added.
