The chief minister said that since his government came to power development and well-being of the citizens have been its core priority.

He said that Meghalaya is today miles ahead of where it stood a few years back.

Sangma said that to celebrate the 50th year of statehood his government has launched comprehensive programmes on farmers’ collectivisation and individual well-being called FOCUS and FOCUS+.

Under the FOCUS programme a group corpus fund of Rs 5000 per member is provided to producer groups to take up value change enhancement activities as a group and under FOCUS+ an individual will be provided untied benefit of Rs 5000.

Under this programme around five lakh farmers in rural and urban households of the state will benefit.

He said that he was positive that a programme of such scale will herald a revolution in the primary sector and benefit producers involved in agriculture, horticulture, livestock, aquaculture, weaving and crafts.

He also said that 80,000 farmers are benefitting from zero interest KCC loans and another 50,000 are benefitting from various mission mode interventions like in piggery, milk, Lakadong turmeric, honey, mushroom, jackfruit and ginger.

The chief minister said that his government has set up processing facilities and established market linkages that are enabling the farmers to explore national and international markets.

Sangma also said that 50 per cent of seats in the village employment council has been reserved for women, enabling them a stronger role in local governance.

He also said that the government is focusing on the youth and making them future ready.

“We have formulated the youth policy to lay down a plan for the betterment of our youth,” he said.

To implement the youth policy programmes like PRIME, YESS Meghalaya, Aspire Meghalaya and the Meghalaya Grassroot Music project have been launched.

Sangma said the law and order in the state is by and large peaceful.

“My government has taken the firmest step to resolve the interstate border dispute,” the chief minister said.

He said that a historic MoU was signed between the states of Meghalaya and Assam to resolve six of the 12 areas of differences.
