Freeman is his reply, had refuted all allegations of irregularities under his leadership in the functioning of the Hima Sohra, saying all activities undertaken by him are decided by the executive committee.

SHILLONG:

The Office of Syiem of Hima Sohra, on March 20, condemned the recent demands for the resignation of Freeman Sing Syiem from the chairman’s post.

Earlier, in a meeting held at Pdengshnong, on March 19, several youths, members of the executive Dorbar of the Hima Sohra, traditional heads and women participants, had apprised the gathering that around 30-40 persons, who claimed to be residents of the Hima, have alleged several irregularities under Freeman’s chairmanship. Freeman, deputy Syiem Marremdor Syiem and Secretary of Hima Sohra BV Rymmai, too had attended the meeting.

Following that, Freeman is his reply, had refuted all allegations of irregularities under his leadership in the functioning of the Hima Sohra, saying all activities undertaken by him are decided by the executive committee.

Among the many, one of the allegations was that Freeman spends most of time in Majai and the chairman is selling off lands in the village. In his reply, Freeman said, “In Majai, the deputy Syiem is stationed there, and all allegations against me are only claims.” He further added that all these “claims” are false and have been done with an intention to defame him.

He further added that the ones making these allegations of irregularities are actually sitting somewhere else and that, Alex Diengdoh and Tipkur Majaw are just fronts for them.

Earlier on March 15, some youths led by one, Alex Diengdoh, had gone to the office of the Syiem of Hima Sohra and in the presence of Freeman, had read out a list of their demands which also included his resignation from the post on the basis of various allegations.

“They are just carrying out the orders of someone from behind. Just like Bin Laden hiding in a cave,” he said.

Meanwhile, Freeman also said that the Office of Hima Sohra gave the Rangbah Shnong of Khlieh Shnong 10 days’ time to clarify on the allegations that land was given to the Border Security Force (BSF), else he will take the matter to court.
