SHILLONG:
Weeks before Shillong hosts the G20 nations’ meet on Space on April 17-18, women in Ri Bhoi district are all geared up to welcome delegates from 20 countries to the “Abode of Clouds”.
A few women from Quinine and Umsaw villages came together to clean the highway from Jorabat to Umiam and paint the dividers, under the aegis of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
In a conversation with The Meghalayan, the women agreed to sign a daily-wage contract with NHAI; they started working on this on March 30 and will continue till April 1.
Then Meghalaya Governor BD Mishra announced that Shillong will be one of the cities in India that will be hosting the G20 nations’ meet on Space.
He said this during the Republic Day celebrations at Polo Ground, Shillong this year.
