Three persons, including a woman and her 5-year-old son, were trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants in Pedaldoba area of West Garo Hills. The incident took place at around 2 am at Kurung village of Pedaldoba.
As per reports, the elephants had entered the village in search of food, and the deceased persons, in the process of an attempt to protect their houses from the elephants, were attacked and killed.
The deceased persons have been identified as Sarati Lama (32), her son Suchit Biswakarma and another villager identified as Bhim Bh Roy (40).
The elephants have been moving in the area crossing the two interstate border for several days. Wildlife officials informed that forest teams along with police were placed on duty to monitor their movement for the past few days.
