SHILLONG:

Samborlang Diengdoh, who was recently declared as Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from Pynthorumkhrah, has quit from the party and will contest as an independent.

Diengdoh however did not spell out his reason for quitting the TMC even as he attributed it to personal reasons.

He said that during his election campaign he will not get involved in mudslinging against his opponents even as he added that it will be purely on issues.

“In the last few days we have seen that with electioneering heating up we are seeing political parties indulging in mudslinging, but we want to be constructive,” the candidate from Pynthorumkhrah said.

He also said that during the lockdown he and his group were able to put pressure on the government to reduce the Meghalaya Value Added Tax thereby rolling down the rate of petrol.

He also said that his group was also instrumental in opening the farmers’ market during the lockdown thereby easing the problems of the producers.

Diengdoh also said that he will not want to over commit to his constituents.

“We will not promise anything that we will not be able to fulfill later. We will stick to our own script and go ahead with an election campaign on assurances that we will be able to accomplish,” Diengdoh added.

He had joined the TMC on August 20, 2022 even as he added that he did so since he felt that his ideology aligned with the party’s.
