TMC sprint with 12 ends in 5

The Trinamool Congress believed they could unseat the NPP with a major thrust on corruption and anti-incumbency charge against the ruling dispensation, but sadly that did not happen.

TURA:

They started the race with a 12 member relay team, but ended the race last with just five men.

The Trinamool Congress believed they could unseat the NPP with a major thrust on corruption and anti-incumbency charge against the ruling dispensation, but sadly that did not happen.

As they pinned their hopes on double digit figures, going as far as claiming clear majority, little did they know that the voters had other plans.

When the TMC came into being they kickstarted with 12 MLAs of the Congress merging.

By the time votes got counted on Thursday they barely scrapped the barrel with five MLAs, losing firebrand speaker George Lyngdoh in Umroi and even Mukul Sangma in Tikrikilla.

In fact, out of the 12 MLAs that formed the Trinamool Congress over a year ago, only three from the Garo Hills survived the NPP onslaught- Mukul Sangma in Songsak, Miani D Shira in Ampati and Charles Pyngrope in Shillong. The rest fell by the wayside- Lazarus Sangma in Chokpot, Winnerson Sangma in Salmanpara, Zenith Sangma in Rangsakona, Dikkanchi D Shira in Mahendraganj, while Jimmy D Sangma in Tikrikilla and Marthon J Sangma in Mendipathar survived by aligning with the NPP.

Even Himalaya Shangpliang, who changed over to the BJP, failed to return in Mawsynram. Clearly, it was a day not deserving for the TMC.
