Tripura declares educational institutions, offices tobacco-free

AGARTALA:

On Tripura’s 50th Statehood Day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government has declared all the educational institutions and offices of the state as tobacco-free.

Issuing a statement, National Health Mission said that the decision was taken in a meeting of the State Level Coordination Committee of the Tripura Tobacco Control Project Branch on December 13, 2021.

“The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Kumar Alok. At the meeting, various important decisions were taken to make the state of Tripura tobacco-free and one of them was to declare all educational institutions and offices as tobacco-free on January 21, 2022,” the press statement reads.

It’s informed that a yellow line within 100 yards of the school will be drawn and a ban on the use, sale and transportation of tobacco, will be banned within the area.

“This is a very important step towards the implementation of the plan to reduce tobacco users in Tripura. The spontaneous role of all levels is highly desirable in this case. Moreover, various programmes are already being implemented in the district to increase anti-tobacco awareness,” the statement read.
