SHILLONG:
United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate PT Sawkmie, accompanied by party president Metbah Lyngdoh took out a mass rally at Mawlai on January 25 to garner support for his candidature.
Sawkmie, who recently resigned as the MLA of Mawlai, joined the UDP and will be contesting the upcoming Assembly polls from Mawlai on a UDP ticket.
It may be mentioned that he, along with four other former MLAs — Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mayralborn Syiem, Mohendro Rapsang, and Kimfa Marbiniang, were suspended from the Congress last year for alleged anti-party activities.
While Ampareen Lyngdoh, Kimfa Marbaniang and Mohendro Rapsang joined the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Mayralborn Syiem and PT Sawkmie joined the UDP.
