UDP wants another round of all-party meet on quota policy

"An all-party MLAs and leaders' delegation would also meet the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, on May 29 to request him to convene the all-party meeting on reservation policy," UDP vice president Allantry F Dkhar said on May 28.

SHILLONG:

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has asked the state government to immediately convene an all-party meeting to discuss on the job reservation policy.

“An all-party MLAs and leaders’ delegation would also meet the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, on May 29 to request him to convene the all-party meeting on reservation policy,” UDP vice president Allantry F Dkhar said on May 28.

He said the party will also put forth its suggestion during the all-party meeting.

When asked, Dkhar said, “All the nitty gritty needs to be handed over to an expert body. First step is for the state government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the reservation policy after which when we decide unanimously or otherwise whichever body that will take the nitty gritty of the reservation policy then we will disclose what we have in mind.”

On VPP’s demand to review the reservation based on population, Dkhar however said, “That is their (VPP) view point but we have a different view point altogether because we have seen so many flaws within the existing reservation so first and foremost we would like to address that and secondly, we will give our views on the other relevant aspects of the reservation policy.”

He said the party had discussed thoroughly that it was time to at least have a general discussion on the reservation policy but an all- party meeting is not the right forum or body to take up the nitty gritty of the reservation policy.

“So in that forum, we will bring our views as to which body would be the best to address this situation,” he said.”There are so many things that are there if the reservation policy is not addressed and these prominent things are not rectified even the roster system is bound to fail,” he further added.
