Nongpoh:

The Umsawnongkharai village in Ri Bhoi District finally got its full-fledged headman after two years following the election, which was held peacefully and under the close watch of police deployed and CRPF, on January 22.

After the term of the then Rangbah Shnong got over in 2020, misunderstanding and grumbling prevailed in the village and that interrupted the election of the new headman twice.

When the matter was brought to the notice of the traditional head of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), he entrusted the Nongpoh Elaka Sirdarship to conduct an inquiry and settle the matter.

Finally, the election for the new Rangbah Shnong was held on Saturday with full security.

Angelus Sun won the election over Tony Shylla by a margin of five votes. While Sun received 155, Shylla got 150 votes.
