The restrictions were put in place by the Assam Police on November 22, restricting travellers' and tourists from entering Meghalaya on vehicles bearing Assam registration number for safety reasons.

NONGPOH:

A day after the firing incident at Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya which left six people dead, commercial and private vehicles plying on Shillong-Guwahati route are dropping passengers/travellers midway at Jorabat due to restrictions imposed by Assam police.

The restrictions were put in place by the Assam Police on November 22, restricting travellers’ and tourists from entering Meghalaya on vehicles bearing Assam registration number for safety reasons.

It is also informed that, on November 23, drivers from Meghalaya had to disembark passengers’ mid-way as commercial vehicles coming from Shillong were restricted entry to Assam, and were stopped at Jorabat.

Speaking to media persons, a few of the drivers expressed grief and concern over the situation after the Mukroh incident, stating that if such things continue, they will face hardships in the coming days.

The drivers also maintained that due to the restrictions imposed, they will be compelled to hike taxi fares which will surely affect the travellers but they do not have any option and also urged both the state government of Meghalaya and Assam to settle the situation at the earliest.
