VPP holds sit-in in Shillong over reservation policy

A large group of people gathered at the designated venue on Wednesday morning, with placards in their hands, seeking the immediate postponement of recruitment process.

SHILLONG:

Voice of the People Party (VPP), on May 17, staged a sit-in demonstration at the parking lot near the Additional Secretariat in Shillong, demanding that all recruitment processes be put on hold pending a review on the state reservation policy.

A large group of people gathered at the designated venue on Wednesday morning, with placards in their hands, seeking the immediate postponement of recruitment process.

A day earlier, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, had informed that an all-party meeting will be held on May 19 to talk about the issue.

However, VPP chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, while welcoming the step, said that the issue is about putting on hold all recruitment processes pending a review of the reservation policy.

On May 12, the VPP held a gathering at the same venue before marching to the Main Secretariat to submit a memorandum to the government.
