SHILLONG:
Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit is standing firm on not supporting the National People’s Party (NPP) and will be in the opposition.
Speaking to reporters on March 18, at the end of the rally of gratitude meeting, he said, “We will never accept even if it (the NPP offer) comes, we are firm to be in the opposition. We are in the opposition because we want to maintain our own identity.”
According to him, it will be a different story if a regional party leads the government but Basaiawmoit said that it will give conditional support.
“We have not decided on the MP candidate. As of now, there is no one who can claim that he is a VPP candidate, either MDC or MP,” he said.
Basaiawmoit further said that the party is preparing for the council elections in Khasi and Jaintia Hills and will field candidates in all the constituencies and will also put up an MP candidate.
