NONGSTOIN:
The Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (MDNR), on March 25, identified Langdongdai village, Mawshynrut block, West Khasi Hills district, as one of the aspirational villages in the state.
Birbor Riangtem, the headman of the village, said, “A few months back, a survey was conducted in our village by various departments. I believe the survey officers must have found our village to be one of the backward villages, requiring developmental activities. May be that’s the reason our village has been chosen as an aspirational village with the consent of the Centre.”
Notably, the MDNR has identified four blocks from Meghalaya – Jetra, Chokpot block, Maheshkola, Rongara block and Sawekolgre, Gasuapara block in East Garo Hills – as aspirational villages.
He further stated that villagers have been provided with agricultural training by the departments and a team from Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Agricultural University visited the village and distributed agricultural materials to the villagers as well.
“The village dorbar of Langdongdai has expressed gratitude to the ministry and the Centre for choosing our village,” Riangtem said.
