SHILLONG:

The Special Judge (POCSO) of Shillong, M. Kumar, pronounced a guilty verdict against one Dresstar Kurbah for the rape of a 15-year-old girl in 2021.

The judgment, dated December 6, sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a period of 20 years, accompanied by a fine of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand) only.

The case unfolded on February 11, 2021, when an FIR was received at Mawlai Police Station, detailing the horrific incident that took place in June 2021. The victim, a 15-year-old girl, bravely reported the crime, leading to the registration of Mawlai PS Case No. 68(11)2021 under U/S 5(j)(ii)/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The investigation into the case was pursued by WP/Sub-Inspector Lavinia S Kongwang. After thorough examination and evidence collection, the case was charge-sheeted against the accused, Dresstar Kurbah, on January 12, 2022, as per CS No. 1/2022.

The trial proceedings took place in the Ld. court of the Special Judge (POCSO), Shillong. After a comprehensive examination of the evidence and legal arguments, the court found the accused guilty of the charges.
