257 community Durga Puja, five private in state this season

The Central Puja Committee (CPC) on Thursday informed that puja festivals in the state will be conducted from October 2 – 4.

Naba Bhattacharjee, CPC president, urged pandal-hopping devotees to walk or take Shillong Public Transport Service (SPTS) buses, which will run until 11 or 11:30 pm.

“There is fun in walking. Avoid taking out cars, parking is also tough,” he advised.

The CPC informed that community puja committees and individual puja performers are prohibited from immersing any idols and puja wastes in rivers, streams or water bodies in and around Shillong since a designated immersion spot has already been allotted by the state government.

Meanwhile, chairman of the immersion committee, BK Das, disclosed that the organisation had provided the state government with an estimate for a permanent structure for the immersion ghat.

General secretary of the CPC, JL Das said that there will be 257 community Durga Puja and five private Durga Puja in the state.

He further informed that Harisabha Durga puja committee will celebrate 127 years also. The CPC will organise the All Faith Religion get-together of harmony on September 28 at Kench’s Trace Puja pandal.

On the occasion, Diamond Jubilee year of Durga Puja celebration, Shree Shree Rajasthani Durga Puja Committtee in collaboration with CPC, Meghalaya will celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav /50 Years of Statehood Meghalaya coupled with the inauguration of Diamond Jubilee celebration at Shree Shree Rajasthani Durga Puja Pandel, Lukier Road in the city on September 30 at 4 pm onwards where Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, will attend as the chief guest.
