Over thousand of Anganwadi helpers from different parts of Assam, under the banner of the All Assam Anganwadi Helpers’ Union, today gathered in front of the social Welfare Office in Uzan Bazar, Guwahati to protest against the non-fulfilment of their demands by the state government.

In a fresh memorandum submitted to the director of social welfare, the protesters forwarded their demands. The workers have demanded the government to appoint them as regular employees and increase their monthly remuneration to Rs 21,000.

Among other demands from the association include – a specific pension policy. They underlined that the workers should get retirement benefits until the pension policy is not implemented.

Notably, the Anganwadi workers and helpers have been agitating since January 2015.
