In its fight against corruption, the sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC), on August 11, arrested two government employees on graft charges in Tamulpur and Golaghat districts of Assam.
In one operation, the sleuths of VAC arrested Lohit Phukan, dealing assistant in the office of the Inspector of Excise, Bokhakhat (Golaghat district) for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a person for converting his bar license from ‘ON’ to ‘OFF’ shop.
“A trap was laid today by a team from the VAC in the office of the Inspector of Excise, Bokakhat. Lohit Phukan was caught red-handed at 12.55 pm immediately after he accepted a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the complainant,” an Assam Police statement said.
The bribe money was seized from the possession of Phukan in the presence of independent witnesses, and a case has been registered in ACB Police Station vide ACB PS case no 27/2022 u/s 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against him.
In another operation, a team of VAC officials arrested Gopinath Das, an Extra Writer in the office of the Sub-Registrar in Tamulpur district of BTR.
“Gopinath Das was caught red-handed when he was accepting bribe money from an individual for providing a marriage certificate about a couple. A trap was laid today by a team from the VAC near the office of the Sub-Registrar, Tamulpur. Gopinath Das was caught red-handed at 12.32 pm immediately after he accepted the demanded bribe from the individual,” the statement said.
The bribe money was seized from the possession of Das in presence of independent witnesses, and a case was registered in ACB Police Station vide ACB PS case no 26/2022 under section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Das.
