Arrested state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president Bernard Marak, who has been in the custody of Tura Police for the past eight days following his dramatic arrest in Uttar Pradesh, has been sent to six more days police custody, on August 5.

The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) of Tura remanded the BJP member of district council (MDC) to police custody as prayed by the investigation officer on Friday evening.

Earlier on July 28, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court had sent Bernard to eight days of police custody after he was brought back to Tura by the Meghalaya police.

“He will be produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class in Tura and we are praying for 6 more days of police custody,” West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh Rathore had said.

The Tura police are investigating several cases against Bernard after arms and explosives were recovered from his farmhouse and the rescue of six minors in which one has been medically found to have also been sexually assaulted.
