Calling AITC Bengali party is racial mindset: Mukul

All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader Mukul Sangma on Saturday said other political parties of the state are calling his party as a Bengali party because they are scared of it.

Other than this accusation they do not have anything else to say, Sangma said.

“Why are they calling it Bengali party when so many other states are accepting it in the region,” he said.

He said that this particular narrative is being circulated and amplified by the opponents because they want to create a kind of perception which is a product of a racial mindset.

He said that people of the state visit Kolkata and there are a lot of tourists from Assam who visit Meghalaya.

“It is a beautiful connect from time immemorial,” Sangma said.

He said that the people of Meghalaya do not suffer from a racial mindset but it is only the leaders who try to infuse such thinking.

“You will listen to speeches of many of the leaders who say that I am the messiah who will protect the interest of the jaidbynriew and after getting elected they even agree to give tribal land to Assam,” Sangma said.

He said that the headquarter of NPP is in Manipur. “Are we saying that it is a Manipuri party,” Sangma said.

He said that these narratives are being spread by those people who cannot get votes on the basis of what they have done for the people.
