No plans to close schools and offices due to heatwave in Shillong: Ampareen

“We have just issued basic advisories and the government has no such plan to issue directives on closing schools and offices,” she said.

SHILLONG:

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on April 20, said that the government has not zeroed down on anything when it comes to heatwave as there are no reports of any serious effects due to the heatwave.

“We have just issued basic advisories and the government has no such plan to issue directives on closing schools and offices,” she said.

She said with the change in climatic conditions, various line departments have been asked to immediately conduct awareness programmes, workshops interfacing with students at various levels discussing the effects of global warming.

“We want to present before the public certain good practices such as propagating carbon-free farming practices, carbon-free industrial practices. We are trying to show that our forest cover is adequately attended to,” she added.

She also informed that Meghalaya is doing well in all these fronts as per the national average, and these kinds of programmes will enable the state to participate actively in the entire global approach to deal with the reality of global warming.

Informing about the discussion on the matter at the recently held G20 meeting in Shillong, Lyngdoh said that there was substantial discussion on this aspect.
