AGARTALA:

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has accused the then central and erstwhile Left Front government of Tripura for failing to develop the state and neglecting the indigenous people.

Deb made the statement while inaugurating a two-day state-wide Buisu Festival at Longtorai valley in Dhalai district, on April 13.

“Earlier development in Northeast was negligible, but since the time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2014, the region witnessed massive development across all sectors. The Left ruled Tripura for 25 years, but tribal areas in Dhalai saw no development,” Deb said, addressing the inaugural event of the 20th state-level Buisu festival.

Highlighting various central government schemes meant for Tripura, he said that it is because of the BJP government at Centre that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) sanctioned Rs 1,300 crore for the development of tribal areas.

“For instance, before the tribal women had to walk far to fetch water, but after the government implemented the Jal Jeevan Mission, free drinking water connection is being provided to every household in the tribal areas. The state government will provide tap water connection to every household soon. Besides, roads are being constructed with paver blocks in these areas,” he added.
