CRC-Shillong distributes Android tablets to visually impaired

The beneficiaries were urged to take advantage of the various applications using voice command available in the Android tablet.

SHILLONG:

Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) CRC-Shillong, organised an Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) distribution camp for persons with visual impairment in the auditorium of Shillong Law College on January 12.

CRC-Shillong, Meghalaya is under the administrative control of National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD)-Chennai, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

There was distribution of 65 Android tablets to the visually impaired persons registered in CRC-Shillong by the officials present.

Speaking at the function, Ram Shakal Sahani, officer in-charge, CRC-Shillong informed the beneficiaries about the importance and usage of Android tablet.

Urging the beneficiaries to use the Android tablet for academic, career, passion, hobbies, etc., he said that the beneficiaries can take the benefit of different types of activities by using different applications from Google Play Store.

Orientation and mobility instructor, Sosthiness K. Warshong, gave a brief description about the Android tablet. She informed about different types of applications available in the Google Play Store and asked all the beneficiaries to use all types of applications using voice commands in Android tablet.

Tablets can run many applications to add functionality. These devices are some of the best tablets for visually impaired and partially sighted users. With the help of these tablets beneficiaries will be able to go anywhere by using GPS.

Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Sabrella B Marak, informed the beneficiaries about the Shaksham application available in Google Play Store and urged all the beneficiaries who are 18 years and above to use it for casting their vote in upcoming elections.
