The chief minister said that Meghalaya is not the only one facing the hurdle of unemployment, but it is the problem everywhere in the world.

Admitting that the state is facing a challenge of unemployment, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on September 26, gave an affirmation that the only way to control joblessness is to promote entrepreneurship.

The chief minister said that Meghalaya is not the only one facing the hurdle of unemployment, but it is the problem everywhere in the world.

Sangma said that the government has realised that the only way to tackle this problem is to promote entrepreneurship in order to ensure there are small scale businesses coming up and to ensure the small value addition can be done to the products.

“…to be able to provide the services when it comes to sectors like vehicles and transportation,” he said.

According to the chief minister on every step of the way as one moves along whether it is the home stays, the tourism vehicles, or agriculture vehicles that the government is going to distribute or the PRIME programme where over 1000 entrepreneurs have been supported or the self help groups (SHG) movement at the grassroot all these programmes are going to help in creating employment.

The chief minister said that compared to many other states in the country the surveys have shown that Meghalaya is in a better position.

The chief minister also informed that the government has advertised more than 2300 posts and 1300 teachers have already been appointed in the vacant posts where the contractual teachers were there.
