SHILLONG:
Former minister and sitting MLA from Mawthadraishan Brolding Nongsiej on January 31 said that the United Democratic Party (UDP) will be able to break the streak and produce a Khasi chief minister after a gap 13 years.
Exuding confidence in the UDP leading the government after March 2, Nongsiej said the UDP has a good chance to secure a majority this time around, with at least 45 candidates contesting in the upcoming polls.
Nongsiej was in Mawlangkhar village in West Khasi Hills district to campaign for UDP candidate from Nongstoin Polestar Nongsiej.
Addressing the gathering, Nongsiej said that in the past 13 years during the 8-year reign of the Congress and 5-yr rule of the NPP, Meghalaya has suffered and it is high time for a regional party to govern the state.
