The four are the first from Congress to file their nominations. Adrian Lambert Chyne Mylliem, the Congress candidate from Jirang will file his nomination on February 3.

Speaking to media persons, former president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee Dr Celestine Lyngdoh said despite the mass exodus of party MLAs in the past few years and months, the grand old party has been able to bring in new faces, who he believes, will revive and uplift the party to a new level.

“As a Congressman, I feel proud because we have been able to put up candidates in all the 60 seats and this is not a small achievement because this is a reply to questions raised from time to time on the fate of Congress,” Lyngdoh said.

After the 2018 assembly elections in the state, Congress secured two out of the five seats in Ri Bhoi. both Mayralborn Syiem and George B Lyngdoh won the Nongpoh and Umroi seats on a Congress ticket, respectively.

While Mayralborn Syiem left the party to join the United Democratic Party (UDP) recently, Goerge B Lyngdoh defected to Trinamool Congress (TMC) along with former chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma and 10 others in 2021.
