Garo Hills Police nab man travelling with gold biscuits worth Rs 25 lakh

The accused, during questioning could not provide any detail or document pertaining to purchase of the gold and has since been arrested and sent to court.

Garo Hills Police seized gold biscuits worth around Rs 25 lakh and arrested a man who was transporting it through the region’s highway during a random search operation that took place on August 31 evening.

The incident took place at a check point on the Rari to Bajengdoba highway of North Garo Hills which connects the region with neighbouring Assam.

The arrested man, identified as Hamidul Haque (27) and hailing from Cooch Behar in West Bengal, was coming from Tura and proceeding to Assam in a bolero pick up when the police caught him.

“We were conducting naka checking for contraband and other illegal items yesterday between Rari and Bajengdoba when our team stopped a bolero pick up that did not have a number plate. While checking the vehicle documents and conducting a search for any illegal items, we found four numbers of gold biscuits hidden inside,” confirmed North Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Shailendra Bamaniya.
