HYC wants MHA to ensure safety of religious communities

“The Constitution of India allows any religious leader to go for any religious activities. In our state, we enjoy religious harmony and we hope the same spirit of secularism is accepted in other parts of the country,” HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin told media persons on April 13.

SHILLONG:

Days after two church leaders from Shillong were allegedly manhandled in Bihar while on a religious mission, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the Union Home Ministry to ensure the safety and security of religious communities across the country.

Terming the Bihar incident as “unacceptable,” the HYC has also urged the Meghalaya government to follow up the case with Bihar to ensure that the miscreants involved in the incident are booked.

“The Constitution of India allows any religious leader to go for any religious activities. In our state, we enjoy religious harmony and we hope the same spirit of secularism is accepted in other parts of the country,” HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin told media persons on April 13.

Furthermore, the HYC has also appealed to the citizens of the state not to react hastily without knowing the full story. “Sometimes, when incidents like these happen, we tend to react quickly without knowing the full story and at time, exaggerate and blow it out of proportion,” he added.
