During a surprise checking on Wednesday, the police recovered approximately eight to nine tons of coal at Nengchigen and Goreng, West Khasi Hills.
The police also detected two water pumps, water pipes and one shovel from an abandoned coal quarry at Nengchigen village.
Police seized the aforesaid coal and equipment.
