The KSU organised the Fr. Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh Academic Award 2020-2021 to felicitate the top 20 students of various courses for excelling in the secondary, higher secondary, degree, and master’s examinations acquiring PhDs.

The Award was handed over to more than 150 youths within the district. Principals and teachers too were honoured for their hard work. The ceremony also witnessed the proud parents of the meritorious students.

The Awards ceremony was attended by Lambokstar Marngar, President of KSU Central Executive Council (CEC) as chief guest and Paidalyn L. Nonglait, education officer of the district, as a guest of honour among others.

Addressing the occasion, Fabian Lyngdoh, nephew of Fr. Sngi said that Fr. Sngi, who was known as an exorcist, missioner, author, political and social thinker of northeastern India, died on May 28 but his legacy still stands tall.

“My uncle is the pride of our district especially coming from a small village of Umtyrkhang in Ri Bhoi, he was like a strong pillar who stood to preserve the culture and identity of the indigenous people of the state.”

On the other hand, Paidalyn L Nonglait shared her encounter with Fr. Sngi. Nonglait also praised the KSU for the initiative.

Lambokstar Marngar President, KSU CEC said young people need the right mix of skills to thrive. Young people everywhere need to develop a greater breadth of skills to evaluate and apply knowledge.
