SHILLONG:
Lumshyiap defeated Mawryngkneng 2-1 on Monday at Third Ground, Polo, in Group A encounter of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division football tournament.
Lumshyiap took charge into the match right from the start and took a 2-0 lead with goals from Failbonson Lyngdoh in 35th minute and Daminot Nongphlang in 64th minute.
However, Mawryngkneng tried to get back into the match with a very late goal from Oliver Pale at 84th minute, but they failed to find an equalizer resulting in the conclusion of the game in Lumshyiap’s favour with 2-1 scoreline.
Lumshyiap remains at 4th position in Group A standing with six points from four games, while Mawryngkneng find themselves at the bottom with just one point. On Tuesday, Sohiong will take on Nongkrem at 2:45 pm.
The second division tournament is being played in league cum knock-out basis where 12 teams are competing against eachother drawn in two groups. In Group A – Pohkseh SC , Marbisu SC, Mawryngkneng SC, Jongksha SC, Lumshyiap SC, and Mylliem SC are placed. In Group B – Umphrup SC, Nongkrem SC, Laitkor SC, Laitkyrhong SC, Wahingdoh SC and Sohiong SC are placed.
