Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong (Left) and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma (Right)

SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on February 2, alleged that the Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and his team are planning to desert the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the elections.

Briefing the press, Tynsong said that arrangements have already been made between Mukul and the BJP.

“I know his (Mukul) plan. If he wins 3-5 seats, he will join the BJP. It is true that there is some kind of arrangement made, in what way I don’t know but Mukul will come out of the TMC…,” he said.

According to him, chief minister Conrad K Sangma had also hinted this in one of the public meetings held in Garo Hills.

Urging the people not to trust Mukul’s leadership, Tynsong said, “Anytime he can jump anywhere as he knows very well that he will not get many seats (in the coming elections).”

Stating that there is no truth in Mukul’s allegation that NPP is B-team of the BJP, the deputy chief minister however said that the leader of opposition will surely join the BJP after the elections.

On January 23, Conrad K Sangma had cautioned the TMC spokesperson Mamata Banerjee about her state leaders planning to desert the party and said, “Madam Mamata Banerjee, that many leaders have joined you today; many leaders from different political parties have joined the TMC. But let me tell you and this is not Conrad Sangma saying it, this is the word in the market and you can ask anybody, you have lot of people in different networks they will tell you, that most of these leaders who have joined the TMC today have already planned to leave the TMC after the elections. They are already in contact with different political parties; they are already talking to many people. I am not saying this, this is the word in the market, in the political circle.”
