Night curfew in Tura withdrawn from today

The withdrawal of Section 144 of CrPC on July 27 was a prelude to the withdrawal of the night curfew.

TURA:

A day after Section 144 of CrPC was withdrawn from in and around Tura town, the West Garo Hills district administration has decided to also withdraw the night curfew that has been in place for the past four nights, since July 24.

“We are withdrawing the night curfew from Friday itself given that normalcy has returned and no untoward incidents have occurred,” said West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani.

He said that the withdrawal of Section 144 of CrPC on July 27 was a prelude to the withdrawal of the night curfew.

The imposition of night curfew from July 24th night, following the violent attacks on police and public property by well-organised mobs outside the chief minister’s mini secretariat in Dakopgre area of the town had led to total closure of all activities during the late evening hours.

The Tura administration had to clamp curfew to prevent the violence from spiralling out of control given the scale of the attacks on Monday night where multiple government and private vehicles were targeted for destruction and several police and civilians sustained injuries from the stone pelting and use of catapults to fire projectile by the antisocial elements.
