Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem

SHILLONG:

Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has denied the existence of illegal toll gates along the highway in Ri Bhoi district stating that they have been removed, even as truckers continue to complaint about illegal toll collection

Briefing media persons on November 22, Syiem also informed that toll gates on state and village roads are under the provision of District Council, or other government departments, wherein they collect a certain toll fee, and according to him must be under the preview of law.

“I am very much against erection of illegal toll gates which affects businessmen engaged in transporting bamboo, timber, ginger, and vegetables and other items, and is detrimental to the growth of the state,” Syiem said.

Stating that illegal toll gates along the highways across the state leads to price rise and other negative economic impact, Syiem maintained that such gates must be removed.

It must be remined that last week the Meghalaya Truckers Association (MTA) had met the West Khasi Hills DC over the presence a large number of illegal toll gates in the district demanding immediate removal of those.
